Team Shepherd launched a Kickstarter Campaign on October 1, 2024, with the purpose of raising funds to print a hardcover version of The Shepherd, Volume 4: The Tether.  As of October 31st, 71 backers pledged $4,824 to help bring this project to life.

Team Shepherd is pleased to announce that as of february 5, 2025, we have fulfilled all our Kickstarter rewards--most notably mailing out all our backers' copies of The Tether!

Now that the backers' rewards have been fulfilled, we are free to open up sales of The Tether to the general public--right here at https://www.theshepherdcomic.com/products/the-shepherd-volume-4-the-tether-hardcover-autographed-by-authors

The ShepherdVol. 4: The Tether is a romantic horror story in the classic gothic mode. Like Vol. 3: The Valentine, The Tether is also drawn by Jaime Rodríguez Martínez.

It is unique in that Roberto X. Molinari was the primary author of this story (and good old Dad was relegated to a support role)! Editor's Note: Roberto's previous solo work as an author on The Shepherd is The Story of Will Brannigan (which is Issue 4 in The Shepherd, Volume 2: The Path of Souls).

From our perspective, The Tether is critical to the "Shepherdverse" in two ways: 1) it focuses on Val Miller and his alter-ego Legio, rounding out his character, history, and motivations; and 2) it provides a window into how "the Seam," that middle-place of the afterlife, works.

The plot of The Tether could be described as follows

For two years, the deceased Val Miller has been rescuing troubled souls in the afterlife. Fighting alongside his father The Shepherd, Val has seen the horrifying, strange, and even beautiful parts of the hereafter.

Now, deep regrets have set in. Mourning the life he can never have, Val’s spirit wanders restlessly. Then he stumbles upon Maria, a young woman hunted by monstrous entities.

But who is Maria? Why is she in the afterlife in the first place? And what nightmares lurk in the shadows around them?

We invite you to check out The Tether, we think you'll be glad you did!
